“GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING”

THE THEATRE ROYAL HAYMARKET IN LONDON

FROM MONDAY 29 SEPTEMBER

FOR A LIMITED SEASON

Adrian Dunbar will star as ‘Vermeer’ in “GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING”, a new play by David Joss Buckley, which will open in London at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Monday 29 September, following previews from 24 September, for a limited season ending on Saturday 1 November.

Johannes Vermeer is the greatest painter of his time. When he hires a young girl Griet to help in his house, it is not long before she becomes more than a servant - she starts to help him in his studio, learning the art of painting by watching the master. And then, secretly, Vermeer begins to paint her and Griet becomes model and muse for his greatest masterpiece “Girl With A Pearl Earring”. This new play is a stage adaptation of Tracy Chevalier’s best-selling novel, which was subsequently made into an acclaimed film.

Kimberley Nixon (who played ‘Sophy’ in the television adaptation of “Cranford”) plays ‘Griet’, Sara Kestelman ‘Maria Thins’, Niall Buggy ‘Van Ruijven’ and Lesley Vickerage ‘Catherina’. Also in the cast are Maggie Service, Jonathan Bailey and Flora Spencer-Longhurst.

“GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING” is directed by Joe Dowling, with set and lighting design by Peter Mumford, costume design by Fotini Dimou, sound by Matt McKenzie and original music by Christopher Gunning.

“GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING” is produced by Brian Eastman and Andrew Welch.

Performance times at the Theatre Royal Haymarket will be Mondays to Saturdays at 7.30pm, with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm.  Tickets, priced from £17.50 - £45.00, are available from the Theatre Royal Haymarket Box Office on 0845 481 1870 or at www.girlwithapearlearring.co.uk.

Prior to the West End, “GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING” will play the Cambridge Arts Theatre from 11-20 September.

Girl With A Pearl Earring will be the West End Premiere of the stage adaptation of Tracy Chevalier’s best selling novel, later an acclaimed film.

Johannes Vermeer (Adrian Dunbar – Hear My Song, The Crying Game, My Left Foot) is the greatest painter of his time. When he hires a young girl, Griet (Kimberley Nixon – Sophy in BBC’s Cranford) to help in his house, it is not long before she becomes more than a servant: she starts to help him in his studio, learning the art of painting by watching the master. And then, secretly, Vermeer begins to paint her and Griet becomes model and muse for his greatest masterpiece – Girl With A Pearl Earring.

Olivier Award-winning actress Sara Kestelman also stars: one of our most accomplished stage actresses whose work includes seasons at both the National Theatre and RSC.  Vermeer's patron will be played by Niall Buggy who starred in an award-winning performance as the Captain in Dublin Gate Theatre's production of Juno and the Paycock in its sell-out season in the West End.
