Back to james Written on 14-Apr-2008 by jamesmawilliamsI have to hand it to the weird flat foreheaded giant that without fail trys to thrust a 'stress test' flyer to me every morning and evening. Even though he sees me EVERY day, he does not fail to try the 'usher' move - directing me toward their 80's stress test machine.
I have been through a range of emotions and attitude to this particular man - and the Church of Scientology as a whole. If i had have a bad day, i will freely admit i mutter 'Idiot', 'weirdo', and sometimes if it has been a particularly AWFUL day, maybe i even stretch to 'freak'. Some days however, i feel sad. He stands their drenched by London's periodic moments of insanely unpredictable weather - still trying to attract anything that walks to take one of the stress-tests (the first step to indoctrination). He stands there in his terminally creepy macintosh, 7 months after i first saw him still facing against adversity, my sadness turns to respect - but i dont dwell, grab the London Shite and enter our beloved Northern Line tube.
These guys must really believe, so whether i laugh, mock or feel the pangs of sadness i have to allow a certain brand of respect for their dedication. What should be noted is the following quote from the infamous, dead and downright deceitful L. Ron Hubbard, father of the Scientology religion.
"Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion" L. Ron Hubbard (Readers Digest reprint 1980)

Why do you think the Church of Scientology is wierd? You believe in your work enough to blog about it...The first step to indoctrination?
I can understand why so many people get caught up in Scientoolgoy and other religions, your friend in a the wet mac is gaining a sense of importance and purpose, and receives praise for his work. Sounds pretty fulfilling to me when I walk through the rain to work and home each day without praise...

I have to say I'm partial to a bit of 'Scientology bashing' every now and then - but I think mainly becasue it's become a hollywood farce & shows such as South Park turn it in such a way that it becomes funny. I think Tom Cruise/Beck/RKelly/Travolta etc have done nothing good for them - they've sorta jumped on a bandwagon and it's easy for young people over here to laugh. It's all about respect and when something becomes a parody of itself it's hard to take it seriously.
