- Add comment | Back to james Written on 08-Apr-2008 by jamesmawilliamsThe management at Baolou hair salon in Beijing must be putting their staff under heavy pressure to increase profit margins - two unsuspecting Chinese students popped into Baolou's hair salon to have a new-age trim, no doubt with red or blue tinges and streaks (its a good look lets face it) expecting to pay the standard 38 yuan advertised on the window. So good so far - until the bill of 12,000 yuan ($1,200) was produced. Shocked at the price - and on objection (and this is where it gets hazy) the two students were somehow forcibly held hostage until they paid the total bill.
The Beijing News reported:
"After borrowing from 16 people, the two were only able to come up with 9,800 yuan and it wasn't until after 10 pm were they allowed to leave the hair salon," it reported.
The salon was eventually held to rights and fined $70,000 but it seems to me their tactics are not so alien from the corporate dogs which trap you into premium rate helplines, governments' stealth taxes and wheel clamping companies, all of them have you by the bollocks!
